Goalie School Training All Off-Season
Recently, there’s been plenty of buzz surrounding the need for athletes to take time out from playing their main sport during the off season. Is this theory correct? Should a break be taken from a sport in order to become better at it?
Off-Season Athlete Development
Theories state that in order to develop as athletes (and people), athletes should take on other sports to remain open minded, while working on skills and technique, while paying additional attention to dry land and strength training. The list of reasons to take a step back from merely playing the sport goes on and on.
Goalie Army Academy agrees with the theory that stepping back from playing the sport is imperative to athletic and personal development. However, there hasn’t been much discussion on the frequency of technical training during the off season relative to goalie training via a goalie school or goalie clinic environment.
Selecting A Goalie School for the Right Reasons
Throughout the off-season, the majority of goalie training providers supply goaltenders with a week-long goalie school summer camp environment. But aside from the convenience of replacing the daycare provider for a week in the summer, is there any benefit in doing a 1 week technical program during a +20 week off season? Would a marathon runner train for one week in the winter and expect to win a race in the spring? Not likely. Therefore, one could assume that attending a goalie school for 1 week within a whole summer may cause a letdown for goalies when they arrive for tryouts.
Train with a Progressive Development Plan
So why not have the best of both worlds? With Goalie Army Academy, goalies can expect a goalie school environment by working on their technical skills and development from March until August while allowing plenty of time for personal development, other sports, and family vacations. Goalie Army Academy enables our students to progressively develop effectively via the integration of our R3E System into every lesson plan, by providing students with off-season goalie training at our goalie school over a 6 month period. Not just over one week.
