Goalie Army Academy – Goalie School Champions

Last weekend, a student who frequents Goalie Army Academy’s goalie school programs, Griffin Forbes, led the Ottawa Sting Minor Midget AA team to victory during the Bell Sensplex Capital Winter Classic Tournament!

Goalie Army Academy - Goalie Training Goalie Clinic Goalie CampGriffin Forbes has worked extremely hard to get where he is today by adapting the R3E System and training with Goalie Army Academy’s various programs via our goalie school clinics, goaltender-specific power skating, and receiving semi-private instruction during his team’s practices from Rick Besharah, Goalie Army Academy’s Lead Instructor and Evaluator.  And all of Griffin’s hard work with our goalie school is paying off.

During the beyond rough semi final game, the Ottawa Sting faced the Kanata Blazers winning 4-1 allowing them to proceed into the finals to face the Upper Ottawa Valley Aces in a fast and extremely intense game.  Tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, the game moved into a 5 minute sudden death 4 on 4 format which decided nothing.  Moving into a 2nd 5 minute overtime period, the format changed to 3 on 3.

Parents and fans looked on as the Bell Sensplex seating area filled with onlookers and plenty of excitement as the game moved into a shootout.  After every shot the arena erupted with fans screaming and players banging sticks on the boards; the atmosphere was insane.  The Ottawa Sting’s 5th shooter decided the game by shooting glove-side on the Upper Ottawa Valley Aces goaltender, to ring it off of the post and into the net.  The arena erupted again as the Ottawa Sting players flew off the bench throwing gloves and helmets and meet the shooter at center ice, and then celebrated with their goaltender.

Griffin earned the MVP of the game for his amazing performance, as well as an impressive 1.27 GAA for the tournament.

Congratulations to Griffin and the rest of the Ottawa Sting Minor Midget AA team on your tournament win!
